As African Americans, do any of you feel “enslaved” still, and whom do you blame, if so?
(I ask this question, because a young “colored” man, not mentioning his culture. Just that he is not Caucasian, stated that he felt enslaved and blames the “white man.”) I personally think that is a naive and ignorant way of thinking. All races have been enslaved. All races have tasted freedom. Yet! Many blame others for their lack of strength. One needs mental strength to overcome the past and make better for the future. As an African/Taino rooted woman, I see, and comprehend the vision many before me placed. MLK didn’t live or held on to the past. Neither did JFK. These political messengers, and many others, paved new roads. What have we done with them? I personally feel that those who have “enslaved” roots should be proud of it. Prove that our ancestors were warriors. To teach our children to see the importance of knowledge, seek superiority, and praise intellectuality. Sadly, most don’t even read.
